CTS have been working with the BFI to deliver specialist film camps since 2014.
The Stop Motion Animation course is delivered in partnership with Aardman and University of the West of England School of Animation and the Art Department Course for HETV and Film is based at BoomSatsuma’s Skyline Park Studio.
The courses are residential and aimed at 16–19 year-olds who are looking to get hands on experience of the skills needed to work in the ever-expanding UK Film industry. Participants get to visit working sets, prop makers, film studios and university courses to explore different routes into the industry. There is also a full programme of masterclasses with practitioners from every stage of their careers, including BAFTA winners, Emmy nominees, company founders, animators, storyboarders, production designers and set dressers.
The high-quality experience of the learning environment is coupled with an exciting experience of living in Bristol for a week and meeting their peers, making new friends that share a passion and forming networks we know can last a long time. Many of the very first 2014 cohort are still in touch and collaborating on film projects.
Past participants of our courses have gone on to careers in the industry including work at Warner Bros and Aardman. Some have also gone on to further study at the Arts University Bournemouth, California Institute of the Arts, and the University of the West of England. In 2019, one of our graduates Efa Blosse Mason won an RTS Award for her animated short, Earthly Delights.
The BFI Film Academy Camps will take place between February 10th-16th 2024
