International and Development Projects

Calling The Shots have strong links with organisations from Europe and beyond.

Ghana

CTS director Steve Gear lived and worked in Ghana in the early 90's and has extensive contacts in the country. We're currently working with Bristol City Museum on a project that will see 10 Bristol young people people visit Ghana in 2007. We're also working with the Watershed Media Centre as they develop a digital artists' link with Ghana.

Germany

CTS have strong links with Hanover based production company, MedienWerkstatt. We have worked together in the past on a youth exchange filmmaking project that brought together young people from Poland and Germany and the UK and we are currently developing new projects.

Bangladesh

CTS worked with artist Ina Hume to develop the Vanishing Rights project. This project, exhibited at the Commonwealth Museum in Bristol, allowed Ina to document ceremonies of the endangered culture of the Hill Tribes and to explore her family history.

Sweden

Calling The Shots have an ongoing relationship with Swedish Film Agency, Film i Skane and the Young People's Film Festival in Malmo, BUFF.   In 2005, CTS organised an exchange between young people from Gothenbourg and the young organisers of Fresh Film, the young people's film organisation in Bristol, UK.

Roma

Calling The Shots have a strong interest in the Roma community in the UK.   We have made four films with young travellers from Somerset and Gloucestershire, including My Life With Horses , a story about a teenager's relationship with the animals she loves, for the Wildscreen Festival.
